CBD infused drinks are everywhere. Seltzers, smoothies, cocktails, coffees, you name it. But why buy a pre-made CBD beverage when you could customize your own? Not only will you get more bang for your buck, but you become in charge of how much CBD you consume and the way in which you do so. Read on to learn why and how to infuse CBD into your very own drinks and explore some of our favorite CBD beverage recipes.
Why Infuse CBD Into Drinks?
When infusing CBD into food or beverage, you receive an entourage effect of CBD and whatever you are consuming. Maxwell Reis, a notable bartender at Gracias Madre, a vegan restaurant in West Hollywood, explains that he uses CBD in his cocktails because “CBD is typically associated with feelings of euphoria and relaxation while alleviating nausea, anxiety and other physical discomforts...a welcomed addition to a cocktail.”
CBD goes well with different drinks for different purposes. Some use CBD in their coffee to alleviate jitters, some put it in their smoothies to relax their muscles during a workout, some infuse their alcohol in order to feel more relaxed and some like it in their water to improve focus and concentration. The possibilities really are endless!
What Type of CBD to Use
While you can technically infuse drinks with any liquidized CBD, water-soluble CBD is the best choice. Water-soluble CBD has increased bioavailability. In the production process, called nano-emulsion, the CBD dissolves and binds with water molecules, becoming a hydrophilic substance. Considering that the human body is mostly made up of water, water-soluble CBD allows for more absorption of the cannabinoid compound at a faster rate.
Since water-soluble CBD absorbs better than oil-based CBD, smaller doses are needed to obtain desired results, giving the user more servings per product. It is also easier to mix water-soluble CBD into homemade drinks since CBD is already bound to the water molecule.

How to Make Drinks with CBD
Doses will vary from person to person and depending on the specific beverage you’re making, you will want to raise or lower the amount of CBD per drink.
For example, when infusing CBD into cocktails, you want to closely monitor the amount of CBD you use so that you don’t overpower the drink itself. Pay attention to ABV (alcohol by volume) percentage, as the more alcohol you drink, the more you will feel affected by it and the less you’ll feel the CBD.
In other drinks such as smoothies and sodas, you have more wiggle room to experiment. A typical dose of CAASI CBD beverage drops is 1ml per serving, giving you 30mg in one full drop. We always recommend starting small. Then day by day, increase or decrease as necessary in order to find the right amount for you.
